Electronic Waste

The Issue

We know that electronic waste is an issue, but we don’t know why it is so widely ignored.

The Audience

As a college student, I know that electronics play a massive role in my life, so I decided to start with people like me, college students in Eugene.

The Plan

I conducted five interviews with college students from Eugene and broke down their responses into major categories.

Interview Findings

- Many students don't know what e-waste Is or that it is an issue

- Students don't know where they should bring their e-waste

- Students don't know the negative effects of not properly dealing with e-waste

Problem Statement

College students in Eugene use electronics every day. With that being said, many students lack an understanding of what to do with these electronics when they begin to stop working. This leads to many electronics, especially batteries, being thrown in the trash rather than being properly disposed of which is very harmful to our environment.

Prototype

With a low fidelity prototype, I ran a user test with a member of my target audience to see what worked and what didn’t.

User Testing Insights

- Keep it simple, too much unnecessary information will draw attention from the issue at hand.

- maintain a color palette throughout graphics, uniformity will keep the brochure clean.

- Make It relevant to my target audience, show them how they personally are being affected.
